ACM-W on Tour: From Malaysia to London
Growing Stronger Together: Welcoming Monash Malaysia to the ACM-W Asia Pacific Family
In May 2025, ACM-W Global Chair Rukiye Altin, ACM-W Regional Activity Chair Arati Dixit, and ACM-W Asia Pacific Chair Bimlesh Wadhwa had the pleasure of meeting with the new Monash Malaysia chapter. We’re happy to welcome a new addition to our ACM-W family in the Asia Pacific region, and we couldn’t be more excited about the energy and enthusiasm they bring.

During the visit, Chapter Co-Chair Sin Yee Yap shared the chapter’s inspiring plans for the coming year. It was wonderful to see the students’ strong motivation to promote diversity and inclusion in computing, which are values at the heart of ACM-W. A heartfelt thank you to ACM-W Asia Pacific Vice Chair Dr. Lay Ki Soon for bringing these passionate students together and serving as their academic sponsor. Your dedication is making a real difference.

The Monash ACM-W Student Chapter has joined the Buddy Chapter Program, partnering with the NUS ACM-W Student Chapter. The two chapters are already planning their first collaboration and have ambitious plans. One exciting initiative is the 1st Scholar Cohort in the ACM-W Asia Pacific Region, scheduled for 2026. This unique program will bring students together for two days in Malaysia, where they will receive mentorship from leaders in academia and industry. The cohort aims to create a supportive space for learning, networking, and inspiration, helping students connect with peers and role models from across the region.
Uniting for Change: A Cross-Organizational Dialogue on Women in Tech Leadership
On 20 May 2025, a joint event of ACM-W, ComSoc WICE and N2Women took place at IEEE INFOCOM 2025 in London, UK. It featured a series of presentations, a panel discussion, and a networking lunch—all focused on the critical themes of women’s leadership in tech and diversity. During the discussion, panellists discussed the barriers that women encounter in tech, diverse approaches for career growth, including the role of mentorship, as well as the roles current leaders and organisations can play to improve diversity in their future leadership teams.
The event was organised by Toktam Mahmoodi (WICE chair), Cigdem Sengul (ACM-W Communications Co-Chair), Eirini Eleni Tsiropoulou (N2Women Co-chairs), Dola Saha (N2Women Co-chairs), and Shu Hong (N2Women Fellow). Speakers including Carla Fabiana Chiasserini (Politecnico di Torino), Mona Ghassemian (Huawei) and Francesca Meneghello (University of Padova) shared inspiring stories and actionable insights. ACM-W was represented on the panel by the ACM-W Europe Chair, Dorota Filipczuk.
