ACM-W Global Chapter Summit 2024
The inaugural ACM-W Global Chapter Summit 2024 took place on May 22, 2024. This virtual event provided a forum for global ACM-W chapters to meet. Participants could attend this networking event unhindered by geographical location. The event highlighted the successes and challenges of our vibrant ACM-W chapters around the world, providing an opportunity for the new and upcoming chapters to meet with experienced ACM-W chapters, exchange knowledge, and get inspiration from each other.
The event was attended by around 120 participants from across the globe. Participants came from countries including Japan, Singapore, India, China, Ghana, Nigeria, Norway, Belgium, the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
The event began with a welcome address by Arati Dixit (Chair, ACM-W Regional Activities Committee), followed by ACM-W Global Chair Ruth Lennon’s address to the audience. The chapter presentations commenced with the ACM-W Europe region, and Dorota Filipczuk spoke about ACM-W Europe. Then, we heard presentations from ACM-W Europe Chapter Kiel, ACM-W Chapter – Annika Huch, and UPV ACM-W Student Chapter – Laura Jiménez Navarro.
The ACM-W India followed the ACM-W Europe region. Rutvi Shah talked about the ACM-W India activities and coordinated the presentations of the ACM-W India chapters: UPES ACM-W Student Chapter – Sachi Choudhary, Vellore Institute of Technology ACM-W Student Chapter – Suganya Ramamoorthy, and PICT ACM-W Student Chapter – Geetanjali Kale.
Finally, ACM-W North America was introduced by Lindsay Jamieson, followed by ACM-W North America Chapter Presentations by Universidad Panamericana ACM-W Student Chapter – María de Lourdes Martínez Villaseñor.
After a vibrant audience participation to several discussions during the Q&A session, the event concluded with a thank you note from Nutan Limaye (co-Chair, ACM-W Regional Activities Committee). We were happy to see the event received an overwhelming response from the global community, with requests to have more ACM-W global chapter networking events!
