Updates to the ACM Celebration Guidelines and Approval Process

To support consistent, inclusive, and well-coordinated celebrations across the ACM community, we have updated the ACM Celebration Guidelines and Approval Process. These updates clarify regional responsibilities and streamline the tracking and approval of celebrations worldwide, enabling volunteers to deliver meaningful, impactful celebrations across the ACM community.

ACM Celebration Approval Process

According to the updated process, regional coverage and coordination play a central role. Each region is responsible for tracking and overseeing celebrations within its local and affiliated communities, ensuring appropriate visibility, support, and alignment with ACM values.

To this end,  regional teams will track local celebrations, coordinate approvals where required, and act as the first point of contact for celebration-related queries within their areas.

The following regional structure applies:

  • Asia-Pacific
    • Asia (excluding India), Australia,
    • Emerging Countries: Russia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE
  • Europe
    • Europe (including Jordan, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan)
    • Emerging Country and Region: Israel, Africa
  • India
  • North America
    • North America
    • Emerging Regions: South America, Central America

Emerging regions not covered above are welcome to contact us at acmw-celebration@acm.org  for guidance on which region to collaborate with.

Where to find the full guidelines

The ACM Celebrations of Women in Computing Guideline (2025) provides a comprehensive overview of what constitutes an ACM Celebration and how to organise one successfully. Organisers can learn about the purpose and impact of celebrations across academia, community, and industry; the requirements for official ACM-W recognition; and the expectations around inclusivity, accessibility, and regional scope.

The guideline also offers practical support, including clear planning timelines, branding and naming requirements, regional affiliation and approval routes, recommended programme components, and step-by-step checklists covering everything from early planning and fundraising to post-event reporting. Together, these resources are designed to help organisers plan sustainable, well-coordinated celebrations that build community, reduce isolation, and recognise the contributions of women in computing.
