Report: “What I Got Out of My Conference Experience”
IPDPS is one of the top most conferences of my research area: High Performance Computing (HPC) and Algorithm Engineering. IPDPS is held in conjunction of 18 other workshops. More than 150 high quality papers are presented covering different areas of HPC. I work on high performance computational biology and HiComb (Workshop on High Performance Computational Biology) is held in conjunction with IPDPS. As a PhD student, attending IPDPS gives me a way to learn about all these cutting edge research work in my field as well as other relevant fields.
My poster was accepted in IPDPS PhD forum. There were some dedicated sessions for the PhD students attending IPDPS PhD forum, mainly focusing on different career paths that a PhD student can pursue, and their possible pros and cons. There were also talks on some future research topics that researcher thinks would be highly demanding and encouraged the new PhD students to pursue.
By attending IPDPS, I got a chance to present my research in the PhD forum and got valuable feedbacks form a lot of attendees in the conference. I also got a chance to do networking with other researchers. I talked to other female attendees about their research. I talked with professors and a few well-known people of my field. I would like to thank ACM-W for sponsoring me to attend IPDPS, and giving me a chance to have this valuable experience.
