Ananya Balaji

Attending WISE 2024 (The International Web Information Systems Engineering Conference) in Doha, Qatar was my first time at a conference, that too abroad!

I had the privilege of presenting my work employing prompt-engineering on Large Language Models for Privacy Question Answering, which I developed during my time at Carnegie Mellon University’s REUSE (Research Experience for Undergraduates in Software Engineering) under the guidance of Professor Norman Sadeh.

This experience has served as a pivotal step in my academic journey, allowing me to merge my passions for languages and cybersecurity, while contributing to a broader academic dialogue. I had the opportunity to connect with Ph.D. researchers and professors from across the globe—from Germany to Syria to Australia—and even took a photo with an industry panelist from Meta. I gained fresh perspectives on a wide range of topics, including recommendation systems, knowledge graphs, and query processing. Overall, I had a fascinating week filled with intellectual exchange.

A special thank you to ACM-W and Google for supporting me to attend!
