Dr Geetanjali Kale, Chair of ACM-W India

Supporting women in computing has been a driving force throughout Dr Geetanjali Kale’s distinguished career in academia and research. As the new Chair of ACM-W India, she brings both the experience of a seasoned academic leader and the passion of someone who has witnessed firsthand the power of mentorship and inclusive environments to transform careers. As the new chair, she is committed to fostering inclusive growth and empowering women in computing across India and all stages of academia and industry.

Currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT), Dr Kale has held several leadership roles, including her recent tenure as Head of the Department. She contributes to student success as the Joint Training and Placement Officer.

She is a Senior Member of both ACM and IEEE, with deep research interests in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Data Science, Generative AI, and innovations in education. Her academic contributions include funded and consultancy projects as Principal Investigator, three granted patents, and over 70+ international research publications. She actively serves as a reviewer and TPC member and continues to mentor many postgraduate and undergraduate students.

A respected voice in academic circles, she has served on the Board of Studies in Computer Engineering and in the Vocational Studies Board at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). She is also actively involved as an advisory board member with several engineering colleges at different universities.

Dr Kale has been an active ACM member for over a decade, contributing significantly in several volunteering roles. She has served as the Secretary-cum-Treasurer of the ACM-W India Committee, Chapter Summit Chair of ACM India, Chair of the ACM-W Pune Professional Chapter, and member of ACM India’s Internal Engagement Committee. Her leadership and support has been instrumental in the success of the PICT ACM Student Chapter, which has received multiple ACM India Outstanding Chapter Awards and the prestigious ACM Global Outstanding Website Award.
