Call for Applications: ACM-W Celebrations Chair

ACM-W is seeking applicants for its next Global Celebration Chair.
We are looking for an organised, communicative, and collaborative volunteer who can coordinate the worldwide network of ACM-W Celebrations of Women in Computing. The Global Celebration Chair will foster communication, consistency, alignment, and visibility across Celebrations in all ACM-W regions.
This is a volunteer, remote, part-time ACM-W leadership role. The position requires an expected commitment of approximately 10 hours per month, together with attendance at virtual meetings. The appointment will be for a two-year term, beginning on September 1, 2026.

About ACM-W Celebrations
ACM-W Celebrations of Women in Computing are regional conferences and events that bring together students, researchers, educators, professionals, volunteers, and allies.
Celebrations provide opportunities for professional development, networking, mentoring, knowledge exchange, and community building. They also strengthen the visibility and impact of women in computing across different countries and regions.
About the Global Celebration Chair Role
The ACM-W Global Celebration Chair oversees the worldwide network of ACM-W Celebrations of Women in Computing.
The role is part of ACM-W Community Program and involves close collaboration with the ACM-W Community Program Chair. The Global Celebration Chair reports directly to the ACM-W Community Programs Chair.
Working with regional Celebration Chairs, ACM-W regional and global leaders, and relevant ACM staff, the Global Celebration Chair helps ensure that Celebrations follow a clear, consistent, fair, and transparent process worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Celebration Support and Guidance
- Ensure that all regions follow the same Celebration process in the ACM-W Celebration Guide, from the initial application form through approval and funding.
- Help ensure that Celebration organisers understand applicable ACM and ACM-W requirements.
- Promote fairness, transparency, consistency, and quality across ACM-W Celebrations worldwide.
- Help align funding procedures and requirements across all regions.
- Identify process inconsistencies, if any and work with ACM-W leadership to address them.
- Support the continued development and improvement of the ACM-W Celebration Guide and related procedures.
Regional Coordination
- Meet regularly with Celebration Chairs from each ACM-W region and provide guidance regarding application, approval, planning, funding, and reporting stages.
- Facilitate the exchange of updates, ideas, experiences, and best practices.
- Help regional teams address challenges and plan successful, inclusive, and impactful events.
- Encourage communication and collaboration among regional Celebration teams.
- Help align regional Celebration activities with ACM-W’s global priorities and processes.
Global Calendar Management
- Maintain and regularly update the global calendar of ACM-W Celebrations in synchronisation with regional and global ACM-W activities.
- Support the coordination of funding, promotional activities, and swag distribution through accurate event planning information.
Collaboration with ACM
- Work with relevant ACM Finance and Marketing teams to support Celebration funding, promotion, visibility, and swag processes.
- Provide ACM staff with information about approved and upcoming Celebrations.
Celebration Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain complete and accessible records for each Celebration, including the proposal and application documents, event feedback, reports, and related documentation
- Provide regular updates and reports to the ACM-W Community Programs Chair on applications, approvals, upcoming events, completed events, funding coordination, and regional activities.
- Highlight challenges, emerging needs, opportunities, and recommended process improvements.
Qualifications and Experience
We welcome applications from ACM-W community members who demonstrate:
- Experience organizing or supporting conferences, workshops, community events, or volunteer-led programs.
- Strong organizational, coordination, and project-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with international, regional, or culturally diverse teams.
- The ability to coordinate multiple events, deadlines, documents, and communications.
- Experience maintaining calendars, records, reports, or event documentation.
- The ability to explain and apply organizational processes consistently and fairly.
- The ability to provide clear, respectful, and constructive guidance.
- Sound judgment, accountability, reliability, and careful attention to detail.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with volunteers, regional leaders, ACM-W leadership, and ACM staff.
- Commitment to ACM-W’s mission and to inclusive, equitable, transparent, and accessible community activities.
Experience with ACM, ACM-W, an ACM chapter, an ACM-W chapter, or an ACM-W Celebration would be particularly valuable.
Applicants do not necessarily need to have previously chaired a large conference. However, they should be comfortable coordinating international event processes, maintaining records and calendars, communicating with regional leaders, and supporting a global volunteer community.
Recognition and Support
The Global Celebration Chair will be recognised as a member of ACM-W Leadership. Their name, photograph, and contact information will be included on the ACM-W website, and they will receive an ACM-W Leadership badge for use in email signatures and on social media profiles.
Travel expenses for required in-person meetings will be reimbursed in accordance with ACM-W and ACM policies.
The selected volunteer will receive guidance and support from the ACM-W Community Programs Chair, the ACM-W Global Expansion Chair, regional Celebration Chairs, ACM-W leadership, and relevant ACM staff.
