Looking for a volunteer for ACM-W Communications Team

Are you passionate about uplifting the stories of women in computing? The ACM-W Communications Team is seeking a dedicated volunteer to lead our Above and Beyond project — an initiative highlighting the inspiring journeys of ACM-W scholarship recipients.

The successful candidate will work directly with the ACM-W Communications Co-Chairs and contribute to our global efforts to amplify the voices of women and gender-marginalised people in computing.

If you’re interested in building meaningful connections, showcasing inspiring career stories, and contributing to the ACM-W community, see below for details and how to apply.

Job Description

This volunteer will take responsibility for the Above and Beyond project, a recurring feature in our newsletters that spotlights former ACM-W scholars. Key tasks include:

  • Reaching out to past ACM-W scholars via email
  • Inviting them to participate in a short, question-driven written interview
  • Collaborating with the Communications Co-Chairs to publish edited responses in our newsletter and online
  • Helping shape the tone and format of these features to reflect the diversity of our global community

This role offers an exciting opportunity to build your network and storytelling skills while helping us document the impact of ACM-W scholarships worldwide.

Compensation, Hours and Benefits

ACM-W is a non-profit organization administered entirely by volunteers. This is a volunteer position, but it directly impacts the ACM-W global community of 70,000+ members.

  • Expected time commitment: approximately 5 hours per month
  • Term: 2 years

The newsletter editor’s name will be shown as a byline on published articles and the newsletter. They will also receive a special badge for their email signature card and social media accounts.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Reliable and responsive via email
  • Comfortable with professional outreach and written communication
  • Able to write and edit short articles for publication
  • Passionate about gender equity in computing

Experience in communications, writing, or community engagement is a plus, but not required.
