Welcome to our new ACM-W Rising Star Committee Chair!
Silvia is a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Universitat Politècnica de València in Spain. She is also Director of the Master’s Degree in Software Systems Engineering and Technology at UPV, a program awarded with the Euro-Inf seal. Previously, she was a Visiting Scholar at Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (USA), Université catholique de Louvain and Ghent Unviersity (Belgium). Her research interests are in the adaptation of software systems using AI techniques, quality assurance in model-driven engineering and the integration of usability/UX into software development. She has been PI of eighteen research projects/contracts involving academic and industrial partners.
She has been actively involved in promoting diversity and inclusion in academia, as part of her various leadership roles in high-quality conferences and journals in the field of Software Engineering. From 2011 to 2017 she was the Spanish Editor of ERCIM News, the scientific magazine of the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics. Currently, she is an Associate Editor for IEEE Software, ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology (TOSEM) and Automated Software Engineering. She serves as Editor-in-Chief for the TOSEM Continuous Special Section on Human-Centric Software Engineering, and as Co-editor of the IEEE Software Practitioner’s Digest department. In addition, she serves on the Editorial Board of the Springer journal Software and Systems Modeling (SoSyM) and on the Advisory Editorial Board of the Wiley Journal of Software: Practice and Experience (SPE).
A long-standing member of the IEEE and, more recently, of the ACM, Silvia has been actively involved in the organization of more than thirty international conferences in various capacities, such as General Co-Chair of the 17th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems (MODELS 2014), PC Co-Chair of MODELS 2020 and Chair & Vice Chair of the MODELS Steering Committee.
With her experience in leading scientific activities in computing, Silvia is eager to assume the role of Rising Star Award Committee Chair at ACM-W. She is looking forward to collaborating with the ACM-W leadership team, and the rest of the wider team in ACM-W to support, celebrate, and advocate for women in computing worldwide.
