News From ACM-W Chapters
In 2017, we begin a new series about activities that our ACM-W Chapters organize – activities that are easy to organize and that can inspire other chapters to duplicate the ideas. An alumnae panel is February’s suggestion. Whether local alumnae can travel to campus or whether “virtual alumnae” make appearances by means of video technology (or a mixture of the two kinds of visitors), panels are easy to organize and inspire our ACM-W chapter members. Advertise the event with alumnae pictures and short biographies. Ask ACM-W chapter members to submit questions ahead of time and give copies of the questions to the panelists. Also allow for spontaneous Q&A. A fail-safe question is: “What do you know now that you wish you had known, when you were in school?” Santa Clara University held an alumnae panel last year, called “ACM-W Presents: ‘My Story’ Panel”.
