I had a thrilling experience attending and presenting my paper titled “Expectations Vs Reality of Conducting Ethnographic Research in Nigeria to Inform Autonomous Ground Vehicles Design” at the ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI 2024), on behalf of my co-authors. The paper highlights how institutional, geographical and sociocultural factors affected an ethnographic research we conducted in Nigeria to identify autonomous vehicles design factors for Nigeria’s road transport system, and the limitations of planning ethnographic research or assessing its risks remotely/overseas. We recommended some research considerations and actions for managing these in similar tech design or ethnographic research.
I also attended the Theory of Mind in Human-AI Interaction workshop at the conference, and had insightful conversation with the other participants on defining on development of Mutual Theory of Mind (MToM) in human-AI interaction..
It was exciting to connect and reconnect with friends and experts doing impressive research in human-computer interactions (HCI) at the conference.
Many thanks to the ACM-W: ACMs Women in Computing for supporting my attendance through the conference travel scholarship.
