ACM-W is seeking applicants for the next ACM-W Celebrations Chair. Come join us and be part of an energetic team of leaders for an organization supporting, celebrating, and advocating for women in computing around the world.
ACM Celebrations of Women in Computing connect technical women who are working/studying within a particular geographical location – with locations that could be a single city, a state or group of states, a country, or several countries. These conferences build community and break down feelings of isolation.
The Global Celebrations Chair coordinates and promotes Celebrations in all regions. Coordination tasks include assisting event committees with activities, such as planning, promotion, registration, reviews, vendors and sponsors. The Celebrations Chair may establish a team as needed.
This is a volunteer, remote, part-time position for a two-year term, requiring 10-30 hours a month, monthly online meetings and online communication via email as necessary. This position reports to the ACM-W Regional Committee

ACM-W: ACM’s Women in Computing
ACM-W is a global community whose mission is to support, celebrate, and advocate for the full engagement of women in all aspects of the computing field. We provide a wide range of programs and services to members and work in the larger community to advance the contributions of technical women.
Part-time Volunteer Assignment
The ACM-W Executive Committee is recruiting for a volunteer to lead the ACM Celebrations of Women in Computing Program. This project is well-established, and has been supporting regional Celebrations since 2004.
Regional Celebrations are small low-cost conferences designed to increase the participation, retention, and advancement of technical women. Such events have been held all over the world, to bring women together in supportive communities for professional growth.
The ACM-W Celebrations Chair is responsible for helping to ensure that Regional Celebrations have adequate support and resources for success. This position will meet with planning committees and event chairs as needed to share guidelines and procedures to ensure consistency across regions. The Celebrations Chair will maintain a record of upcoming events and collect post-event reports. This position is also responsible for administering the project’s budget, creating annual reports, collecting and maintaining an archive of activities, webpages and announcements.
The Celebration chair is responsible for ensuring transparency, regional diversity and consistency across all Celebrations. They will communicate regularly with the Regional Committees Chairs, and other relevant leaders to monitor and promote Celebrations in all regions.
Compensation, Hours and Benefits
It is expected that the Celebrations Chair will spend 10-30 hours a month. The assignment is for a two year term, with an option for one two-year extension.
ACM-W is a non-profit organization, administered entirely by volunteers. This is a volunteer position, but it directly impacts the ACM-W global community of 70,000+ members. The Celebration Chair’s name and contact info are included on the website. They will also receive a special ACM-W Leadership badge for their email signature card, and social media accounts.
The successful applicant will have experience with leading large program development projects, managing volunteers, and creating platforms to facilitate collaboration between diverse groups. Being an ACM Member, experience of working with different geographical groups and being involved with related volunteer organizations will be additional plus points.
