This research examines the relationship between self-efficacy, prior programming experience and gender among first year Computer Science students. On gender and self- efficacy it was found that female students are less confident in their ability to use computers in general. It was further observed that female students have lower self-efficacy beliefs for overall achivement in both the theoretical and practical aspects of the course.
