ACM-W Chapter Requirements

Purpose
The purpose of creating an ACM-W student chapter is to increase recruitment and retention of women in computing fields and the awareness of women leaders in computing.

Requirements
The suggested requirement for student chapter formation is ten interested students (males and females) willing to form and carry out the mission of the chapter. Only two officers are needed to start the chapter, and they must be student members of ACM. Click Here to become an ACM Member. In addition, each student chapter must have an ACM voting member to act as the chapter sponsor.

Although student membership in the ACM is not a requirement in order to participate on the chapter level, student membership in the ACM is encouraged and the cost of membership is greatly reduced for students. Benefits include reduced membership rates to our Special Interest Groups and volunteer opportunities in the over 60 conferences sponsored every year by the ACM, many of which are considered main events in our industry.

Starting Up
To begin the chartering process, request the start up kit and complete the petition, bylaws, IRS form (Instructions) and first year program. Please note that the sample bylaws contain mandatory statements set forth by the ACM Constitution. After returning these materials, the information will be reviewed and presented to the Membership Activities Board for charter approval.

Please send materials to:
