Teri Perl received her Ph.D. in mathematics education from Stanford University in 1979 after her four children were in high school or beyond. She has published three books related to women and mathematics as well as other curriculum materials. Her first book in the gender equity field is 'Math Equals' (1978)  which was cited by the American Library Association's Choice magazine (1982) for its outstanding contribution to mathematics.  Both 'Math Equals' and 'Women & Numbers' (1993), her second book,  include biographies of women working in math-related fields as well as math activities. 'Women & Numbers' is for any reader old enough to read. Math Equals is for middle school readers and older.  Her third book,  'Norable Women in Mathematics', co-edited with Charlene Morrow and published in 1998, is a collection of biographies of 59 women mathematicians.

Teri came to computers through mathematics. "I'd been interested for some time in computers as a way to reveal exciting mathematics for more young people." In the early 1980's, when personal computers were just coming on the market, Teri and another woman formed The Learning Company which is now a prominent educational software firm. Teri designed several of The Learning Company's early programs including "Gertrude's Secrets ", "Gertrude's Puzzles", and "Math Rabbit."

Today, in addition to being President of the Math/Science Network  Board of Directors, Teri is a member of ACM and ACM-W. She serves, as well, on the Advisory Board of WISTEM (Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), a consortium of six non-profit organizations that share common goals.  WISTEM has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NASA Ames Research Park a site for a National Center for WISTEM at NASAs developing campus.

Teri continues to publish articles, give workshops on the use of technology in schools, consult, and develop software such as "MetroGnomes' Music" through her own company, Teri Perl Associates.
