International Activities
ACM is committed to ongoing global initiatives that foster a worldwide computing community by raising awareness of ACM activities that benefit members, such as ACM sponsored conferences and symposia. ACM-W is part of this initiative, through its involvement in the following programs, which aim to expand and diversify populations in the computing field:
Regional Councils:
The ACM Europe and ACM India Councils recognize and support ACM members and ACM activities in Europe and India. The goal of ACM Europe is to serve European members by improving and promoting the exchange of ideas, and by raising awareness with the public and European decision-makers of important technical, educational and social issues related to computing. ACM India serves as a professional network for individuals involved with computing, encourages students, and facilitates high-quality local technical activities. ACM-W Europe works to fulfill the ACM-W mission in Europe. ACM-W India focuses on the empowerment of women in computing in India.
ACM-W Student Chapters:
ACM-W Student Chapters were created to help recruit and retain students in computing programs. Chapter-sponsored activities educate women about careers in computing and networking opportunities. ACM-W Student Chapter members can serve as mentors for middle and high school girls to encourage their interest in computing.
Regional Celebrations of Women in Computing:
Regional Celebrations help to extend the positive impact of the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference to underserved, local, diversity-rich populations. The purpose of these Regional Celebrations is to help develop self-sustaining regional communities of women in computing. The Grace Hopper Regional Consortium partnership between ACM-W, ABI, and NCWIT, received an NSF grant to support regional celebrations and the development of regional leadership.
