Welcome from the Chair

What an amazing year of ACM-W activity we had in 2023.  This year we have brought together many projects running across our regions which highlight the work of our chapters and our members. By working together we help each other.

Regional committees across ACM-W Asia-Pacific, ACM-W Europe, ACM-W India, and ACM-W North America provide much needed opportunities to network. Your regional chairs work with local chapters to establish awards and scholarships. The communications teams regionally and at a global level work to promote the activities of student and professional chapters. There are many regional events which are taking place throughout the year including the ChileWIC, womENcourage, OCWIC and the ACM India-Women Annual Summit. Regions such as Africa are still evolving with new events and new ideas progressing through the guidance of our existing regions.

The ACM-W team presents a wonderful representation of our members across our regions. We want to continue to represent our regions through engaging at a regional and local level. What better way to promote diversity than to work with us to ensure that we ably represent our members.  To find out more about our committee and the working groups check out our contacts page

Much of the work of the ACM-W team relies on sponsorship. This year Google has renewed their support for the ACM-W Scholarships program. Thank you Google! This funding enables applicants to travel to conferences to present their work and to engage with others. Let’s reconnect with the help of the ACM-W. Information on scholarships and how to apply for them can be found here.

I would also like to recommend that you apply for Senior Membership of the ACM if you haven’t already. Senior membership is available to those with 10 years of professional experience and at least 5 years of Professional Membership in the last 10 years. Senior membership recognizes members who have demonstrated performance through technical leadership, and technical or professional contributions. Unfortunately, not enough women apply for senior membership or other elevated grades of membership. Many of our members are eligible but have not yet applied. Now is the time. We are here to help.

Reach out and reconnect with the ACM-W.

Our Mission

ACM-W’s core mission is to celebrate, inform, and support women in computing.

Celebrate

ACM-W members are welcome to host and join events such as Celebrations of Women in Computing. ACM-W also encourages its members nominate women for awards, including the Athena Award & Lecture and ACM Advanced Grade Membership.

Inform

Through ACM-W’s student scholarship program, women are informed about ongoing research and become acquainted with researchers in their field. Members of ACM-W Student Chapters gain exposure to educational and career opportunities.

Support

Follow our newsletter and social media to stay updated on the latest ACM-W events and ways you can get involved. Lend your enthusiasm, inspiration, and support to ACM-W, and help make a difference in the global computing community.

Corporate Supporters

We are very grateful for the support and generosity of our corporate sponsors. At present, ACM-W has funding from Oracle (through Oracle Academy), Microsoft Research, and Google for our scholarships, from Two Sigma for the Athena Lecturer Award, and continuing support from Microsoft Research for the celebrations and for community college-related activities.
