Valerie Barr is the Jean E. Sammet Professor of Computer Science at Mount Holyoke College. Before coming to Mount Holyoke, Prof. Barr was on the faculty at Union College and at Hofstra University. During her graduate studies she also taught at Pratt Institute, Rutgers University, Mount Holyoke College, and Polytechnic University. She received her Masters degree from New York University and Ph.D. from Rutgers University. Her research interests are primarily in software testing, particularly applied to various kinds of artificial intelligence and language processing systems, and computer science education, particularly curricula that will engage an increasingly diverse group of students in CS. Valerie served for 5 years as Chair of ACM-W, and is currently on the ACM Education Board and Education Council. |
